No BMW Series has had its ups and downs quite like the 6-Series has. From the two-door coupe models that graced the streets in the ‘70s and ‘80s, to the eventual demise of the model, to the triumphant return in the early 2000s, the BMW 6-Series has seen it all.
A Bumpy History of the BMW 6-Series
The BMW 6-Series came about in 1976 when BMW wanted to create a series of grand tourers to be the successors to the E9 Coupe. From 1976 to 1989, the only 6-Series that was available was in the form of a two-door coupe. After that, the BMW 8-Series took over, leaving it in the dust. It was until 2004 that the nameplate was revived for a second generation.
Luxurious Performance of the BMW 6-Series
The 2019 BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe comes equipped with a 3.0L inline-six engine that puts out 315 horsepower at the base model. Of course, there is an upgraded version with a 4.4L V-8 engine that puts out 445 horsepower. Each of these comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission and rear or all-wheel-drive.
Some of the standard inside features include automated headlamps and wipers, two-zone climate control, wireless charging stations, a 10.2” touchscreen system, rolling Wi-Fi, and a nine-speaker audio system.
