The Beginnings of the BMW X3

The BMW X3 first hit the market back in 2003, and it was based on the BMW 3-Series platform. The crossover SUV was designed to rival some of the other luxury compact crossovers on the market at the time, including the Audi Q5, the Jaguar F-Pace, the Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class, and the Volvo XC60.

The All-New Technology of the BMW X3

The 2019 BMW X3 comes complete with a 2.0L four-cylinder engine that puts out 248 horsepower with its rear-wheel-drive design. Of course, it can be upgraded with BMW’s xDrive30i for those looking for all-wheel-drive. 

Some of the top features that BMW is now offering include automated emergency braking, parking sensors, and forward-collision warning. In terms of premium features for the X3, drivers can choose from 19” wheel, real-time traffic update navigation, heated front seats, and a head-up display. A smaller 6.5” infotainment system is standard.

A Brief Timeline of the BMW X3

  • First Generation BMW X3 (2003-2010)

The first-generation X3 was built on the 3-Series E46 platform and got its first facelift during 2006. This facelift included new headlights, a new dashboard, a panoramic sunroof, and a brand new 3.0si for the American market. 

  • Second Generation BMW X3 (2011-2017)

The second-generation X3 was made to be a tad longer than the previous generation with bigger rear doors. Some new interior features included a multi-function steering wheel and a new dashboard.

  • Third Generation BMW X3 (2018-Present)

By the third-generation, the X3 got some pretty major updates. The body was completely resculpted with LED headlights, an automatic tailgate, and a redesigned infotainment system. 

The BMW X3 In the News

In recent BMW news, the new BMW X3 for 2020 is set to receive a price increase of just over $1,250. That tells us that there will be plenty of upgrades to what are the now-standard features.
