A Look Back at the Beginnings of the GMC Sierra 1500

The GMC Sierra 1500 came out back in 1999 as a re-engineered version of the GM C/K line of pickup trucks. It was first launched as a regular cab, though had an extended cab brother that utilized rear access doors. 

Tank-Like Technology and Performance of the GMC Sierra 1500

The 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 comes with a choice between five different engines, as well as three different transmission types. The base model Sierra 1500 comes with a V-6 engine and a six-speed automatic transmission that utilizes 285 horsepower. There is a 5.3L  V-8 engine that pairs with either a six or eight-speed automatic transmission. The 6.2L V-8 engine and inline-six-cylinder engine pair up with a ten-speed automatic transmission and put out 420 horsepower, with the inline having a bit more torque.

When properly equipped, this half-ton pickup can to up to 12,200 pounds, which is quite a lot for its class. The interior is incredibly spacious and functional. It comes with a touchscreen infotainment system that utilizes both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Some added features include heated and ventilated front seats, a head-up display, and a variety of driver-assistance features, including lane-departure warning and blind-spot monitoring.

A Timeline of the GMC Sierra 1500 (1999-Present)

The GMC Sierra 1500 was first launched back in 1999 and gave drivers the choice of three different engines, including a 4.3L or 4.8L V-6 engine with 255 horsepower, or a 5.3L V-8 engine with 270 horsepower.

When 2001 rolled around, the company released the C3 class, which utilized top-of-the-line features, such as the Dynamic Brake Propositioning System. By 2002, the company had introduced the Quadrasteer four-wheel steering system, though it was discontinued a few years later.

By 2004, the company had released a hybrid model of the GMC Sierra 1500, and by 2007, the truck had received an entirely new platform. In 2014, the company switched over to EcoTec3 engines, though by 2019, they had been switched over to more powerful and fuel-efficient turbo engines.

This Wisconsin woman was sitting in her car on Wednesday when a light pole fell directly on top of her truck, just inches away from impaling her.
