Honda Accord Hybrid

When you first lay eyes on a Honda Accord Hybrid, you might not even be sure if its a Hybrid version of the Accord at all.

That is because these cars are pretty much twins. The main difference is that the Hybrid version comes with a couple of small badges to prove itself, as well as a hybrid powertrain that is hiding deep beneath the sheet metal. Of course, when you finally get behind the wheel, the difference between the two becomes incredibly clear.

A History of Going Hybrid – The Honda Accord Hybrid

The Honda Accord Hybrid was created back in 2005, as the third Hybrid car in the Honda lineup, which was based on their popular Accord sedan model. The Honda Accord Hybrid followed the Insight and Civic Hybrid, two very popular Honda hybrid models at the time.

True Hybrid Performance – The Honda Accord Hybrid

The 2019 Honda Accord Hybrid is a very impressive hybrid car with a 2.0L inline-four engine that produces 143 horsepower. There are a few different driving modes onboard, including EV Drive, which only uses the Accord battery power, Hybrid Drive, which uses power and gasoline to power the car, and of course, Engine Drive, which clutches the gasoline engine using a fixed ratio. The car has a 0-60 time of 7.1 seconds, which is surprisingly quick for the economy car.

The interior comes equipped with some pretty high-quality features, including an available head-up display, an available 8” touchscreen infotainment system, and an available 10-speaker Premium Audio System. The car utilizes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and has an available Wi-Fi hotspot for those who need to stay connected at all times. Honda Sensing comes standard with the vehicle, using an array of driver-assistance features, including adaptive cruise control, a collision mitigation braking system, and a road departure mitigation system.

A Short Timeline of the Honda Accord Hybrid

The first Honda Accord Hybrid hit the market in 2005, though it was only available until 2007. It was powered by a 3.0L gasoline engine and paired with a 15-horsepower electric motor. It used Honda’s Integrated Motor Assist system.

The Honda Accord Hybrid received a small update in 2006, including Honda’s new Vehicle Stability Assist. In 2007, the company cut the car from production. After a seven-year absence, Honda decided to re-release the Honda Accord Hybrid in 2014.

The 2014 iteration used a 2.0L four-cylinder engine with a 124kW electric motor, making it far stronger than the previous model. Every year after, the Accord Hybrid was updated with its standard Accord brother.
