Honda Accord

From driving dynamics to dependability, the Honda Accord has long since taken center stage in the vast line of Honda Accords. This economy car has been on more top driving lists than we can even begin to count. Though the car has changed quite a bit over the past four decades, its reliability remains its most prominent component. Let’s take a test drive and find out what makes this world-famous car such a genuine automobile.

A History of the Honda Accord

The popularity of the Honda Accord can be attributed to the Honda Civic, which was the first of many conventional Honda automobiles to put the company in the limelight. With a world of success under their feet, they decided that it was necessary to create a companion model that was a bit larger. This companion model was named “Accord.”

The very first Honda Accord was a compact hatchback and debuted in 1976. It wasn’t until 1989 that the lineup was expanded to fit the coupe, sedan, and wagon styles.

Technology and Innovations of the Honda Accord – the Economy Powerhouse

The recent 2019 Honda Accord comes in a variety of different models, including LX, Sport, EX, and EX-L. Each of these models comes with an in-line 4-cylinder turbocharged engine. The interior features high-quality leather materials and a top-notch Head-Up Display with a power-flow monitor, navigation system, and blind spot monitor.

The audio system comes complete with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a wireless phone charger. Honda uses Sensing technology in their Accord as well, including the Collision Mitigation Braking System, Road Departure Mitigation System, and Adaptive Cruise Control.

A Timeline of the Honda Accord

Old Honda Accord
  • Honda Accord First Generation (1976-1981)

The first generation Honda only came in a three-door hatchback design. It had a 1.6L engine with 68 horsepower. Some of the features included AM/FM stereo, five-speed transmission, and a remote rear hatch release.

  • Honda Accord Second Generation (1982-1985)

The second generation received a larger body upgrade and came with the option for four-speed automatic transmission in 1983. The horsepower was increased to 101 by 1985, and fuel consumption was lowered to 29/40 city/highway.

  • Honda Accord Third Generation (1986-1989)

The third generation portrayed a sportier look and feel thanks to the double-wishbone suspension. The four-cylinder engine was upgraded to 2.0L, giving this generation 110 horsepower.

  • Honda Accord Fourth Generation (1990-1993)

The fourth generation marked the first true mid-size sedan model. The Accord now sported a 2.2L engine with 130 horsepower, and the four-speed automatic was given a sport-shift mode for added speed and control.

  • Honda Accord Fifth Generation (1994-1997)

The fifth generation had more room in the interior and a longer wheelbase. The four-cylinder car now came with Lift Electronic Control and Variable Valve Timing. In 1995, the car was given a V-6 engine with 170 horsepower and 2.7 liters.

  • Honda Accord Sixth Generation (1998-2002)

The sixth generation featured a newly redesigned body and longer wheelbase. Dual front airbags became standard, and low emissions were at the forefront of Honda design.

  • Honda Accord Seventh Generation (2003-2007)

The seventh-generation four-cylinder had 160 horsepower, while the 3.0L V-6 had 240, making it one of the most powerful Honda Accords that we had seen up until that time. For the first time, users could add a navigation system.

  • Honda Accord Eighth Generation (2007-2012)

The eighth generation saw the first modern redesign with a slicker body and options for a sedan, coupe, or Crosstour fastback. The 2.4 4-cylinder engine had 177 bhp while the V-6 version had 272 bhp.

  • Honda Accord Ninth Generation (2013-2017)
