The Introduction of the Honda HR-V

The Honda HR-V was first a concept vehicle that was unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show back in 1997, though it would later evolve as one of the most lightweight cross-country vehicles on the market in 1998. The Japanese marketed it as a “joy machine” for younger buyers.

The 2019 Honda HR-V has come completely revised with a new bumper, a new front grille, new headlamps, a modern continuously variable automatic transmission. Drivers also have access to and optional all-wheel-drive system and electrically-assisted steering. On the interior, Honda has added their brand new infotainment system, which sits just above the top of the dashboard, and features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The HR-V has a four-cylinder engine that isn’t very fast, but it definitely smooth and reliable. What really shines is the fuel-economy, which gives drivers up to 30 miles to the gallon.

Through the Generation of the Honda HR-V

  • First Generation Honda HR-V (1999-2006)

The first-generation Honda HR-V hit the road back in 1999 with a 1.6L single overhead cam engine and a 1.6L single overhead VTEC engine. Those engines could be paired with either front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive. Honda’s CVT transmission was also available for those looking for something simpler.

  • Second Generation Honda HR-V (2015-Present)

For almost eight years, the Honda HR-V went out of production. In 2015, they re-released it with a stylish crossover-like design, featuring a trapezoid grille and an ascending waistline. The interior was fitted with a variety of soft-touch materials and the engine was updated with a 1.8L i-VTEC engine that paired nicely with the six-speed manual gearbox.

The 2018 version was updated with solely CVT. Honda added in the 7” touchscreen infotainment system as well, which utilizes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also comes with a variety of new driver-assistance technologies that mirror the other Honda vehicles on the market.
