Tata Aria

Unless you live there, it is not often that you hear about cars manufactured in India. However, this crossover SUV/multi-purpose vehicle/whatever you want to call it, was one of the top and bottom consumer vehicles in India during the 2010s. How did it come about, and where did it go? Let’s find out!

A Passing History of the Tata Aria

The Tata Aria debuted on January 5, 2010, at the Auto Expo in Delhi, though it didn’t hit the consumer market until October of that year. Tata based the vehicle on the Tata Xover, which was a concept vehicle that they showcased at the Geneva Motor Show back in 2006. It wasn’t until 2017 that the Aria was succeeded by the Tata Hexa.

Technology and Innovations of the Tata Aria –  a Mixed Bag of Emotions

The Tata Aria can only be explained as a hybrid of sorts. Critics and auto experts called it a mix between a sedan, an MPV, and an SUV, as it shared the characteristics of all three. Like an MPV, it came with three rows of seating. Some of the top features before its demise in 2017 included dual air conditioning, 3D surround sound, a high-quality infotainment system, and automatic climate control.

It was a fairly safe vehicle as well with six airbags, ABS, ESP, and dual-zone collapsible steering.

Seven Years of the Tata Aria (2010-2017)

The Tata Aria pretty much looked the same throughout its entire run, though there were some functional changes alongside the lowered prices that brought the car out of the dumps, where it sat prior to 2014. The Xenon headlamps were blacked out, and there were new clear lens tail lights added on.

The 2.2L Varicor diesel engine was upgraded after 2014 so that it could run at 148 horsepower, ten more than the previous version. By 2017, it was a far smoother ride than when it began.

The Tata Aria in the News

In recent Tata news, a Tata Aria owner modified his vehicle to look and function like a Tata Hexa. Thanks to a series of extreme modifications, it looks just like the real thing. Check out Dikshit Shetty and his modified car below!

Celebrity Endorsements of the Tata Aria

Though this consumer car does not have very many celebrity owners or endorsement deals, they did manage to peg Indian-Canadian actor Ashkay Kumar to be the company’s brand ambassador.

Best Tata Aria Groups

Though we have yet to locate a large club or group that is dedicated to Tata Aria owners and enthusiasts, we can provide you with the Tata Club, which is a worldwide forum-style club for Tata automobile owners.

The Tata Aria – the Homegrown Automobile of India

Though we may never be able to figure out what kind of car the Tata Aria was trying to be, what we do know is that it had a good run and inspired the future of Tata automobiles. Now that the Hexa has taken over for the Aria, we can only hope that the company takes what they’ve learned and grows to make better, more functional cars for the people of India.
